Projects: WEST SYSTEM epoxy sponsors Young Solar Challenge
Epifanes and W. Heeren & Zoon, Dutch distributor for WEST SYSTEM® epoxy, have sponsored eight young students ready to compete in the annual Dong Energy Young Solar Challenge in the Netherlands.
The Young Solar Challenge is an opportunity for schools in the Netherlands to teach children between the age of 14 and 18 about practical and technical career choices. The challenge requires students to design, build and sail boats, all powered only by solar technology.
Eight third-grade HAVO students, from the Waerdenborch College in Goor, Netherlands are just one of the teams competing, “We built the boat ourselves – with just a little help from our teacher,” said one of them.
To build their solar powered boat, the team have been sponsored with top-of-the-range WEST SYSTEM epoxy, including the 105 Epoxy Resin®, the 206 Slow Hardener® and a selection of fillers.
“We’ll compete in three different competitions: mass-start, sprint and slalom,” said the student. “We think the boat will do great and, of course, we hope to win the competition!”
The Young Solar Challenge takes place on the second and third of July in Sneek, the Netherlands. We wish the Waerdenborch students the very best of luck with their solar-powered epoxy boat.
