Projects: Bringing a New Lease of Life to Reclaimed Scottish Timber
Tucked away in the highlands of Scotland is the small village of Culbokie, home to Craobh Woodwork and artisan Bruce Neill.
Specialising in producing bespoke timber products from the highest quality, locally sourced reclaimed timber, Bruce has added a modern twist to his creations – epoxy from the Entropy Resins® range.
Originally based in Inverness, Craobh Woodwork relocated to the Black Isle in 2019 to larger premises which allowed Bruce to increase his range of unique pieces and incorporate new techniques.
“I’d seen that epoxy worked really well with timber, especially with all the different pigments available and I wanted to work with it on our pieces,” says Bruce.
Having looked at numerous epoxies, Bruce found out about Entropy Resins while visiting his supplier Gael Force Marine.
“It is so versatile and the fact that it’s bio-based was a real positive for me as all my products are created from natural resources reclaimed in an environmentally sound way – it is a great fit.
“I use Entropy Resins CCR clear casting epoxy. It enables me to craft specific items, such as river tables, as well as filling holes in rotten timber stabilising it, or revitalising timber coming to the end of its life, giving it a new lease of life.”
Adding colour to his pieces has been an added bonus, to bring out and augment the natural wood.
“I’ve been experimenting with various pigments in powder and liquid forms to produce different colours,” says Bruce.
“I’ve been using Entropy Resins Vivid and Soft Colour Tints. These bring out the hues in the wood as well as adding vibrancy to a piece.”
