Lightweight, durable, and versatile for composite structures.

PRO-SET® Epoxy is a manufactured and distributed by Wessex Resins & Adhesives under the licence of Gougeon Brothers Inc. It offers a specialist range of epoxy systems, including infusion epoxies, wet lay-up systems, adhesives, accessories, and fairing compounds. So, what are the applications of PRO-SET Epoxy? Various applications, from automotive parts to wind turbine blades to hi-tech hulls, use these products.

What are the Different Types of PRO-SET Epoxy Products?

PRO-SET specifically formulate the resin-hardener combinations for laminating, infusion, tooling, and assembly.

Vacuum Bagging Lamination

Vacuum bagging is an excellent method for clamping during the fabrication of composites using PRO-SET Epoxies. By adjusting the vacuum pressure, one can control the ratio of resin to fibre, which in turn allows for the production of a denser laminate with a higher fibre content. Generally, an increase in vacuum pressure leads to a decrease in resin content.

The ideal resin to fibre ratio for a specific component typically falls between 30% and 50%. A lower ratio results in a lighter composite, while a higher ratio, although heavier, offers better resistance to moisture. Different bleeder and absorber materials used in vacuum bag laminating can affect the resin to fibre ratio. You should produce test panels to determine the suitable vacuum bagging material schedule and vacuum pressure for a specific component.

Adhesives

In addition, PRO-SET provides pre-thickened, two-part epoxy adhesives, which people use for secondary bonding of laminated composites, steel, aluminium, cast iron, concrete, stone, and most woods.

Infusion Epoxies

PRO-SET Infusion Epoxies are a key component in various closed moulding techniques such as resin infusion, VARTM, and RTM. They are instrumental in creating lightweight, high-performance composite materials that can endure long-term cyclic loading under the most severe conditions.

These epoxies show exceptional physical characteristics at room temperature, and post-curing can further boost their performance.

You have the flexibility to select the resin/hardener combination that provides an appropriate gel time for your specific part and process.

For large-scale orders, there is an option to incorporate colour into Infusion Epoxies to facilitate visual quality assurance. A proper mix of yellow-tinted resin and blue-tinted hardener will yield a uniform green hue.

High-Temp & Tooling Epoxies

PRO-SET Tooling Epoxy, thanks to its cutting-edge chemical composition, is a user-friendly product that minimises labour expenses and ensures excellent outcomes. PRO-SET designed this dual-component paste to blend rapidly, apply evenly, exhibit minimal shrinkage, and harden within a timeframe of eight hours

The PRO-SET TLG-625 Low-Density Fairing Putty is purpose-built for the fabrication and restoration of composite structures. Its distinctive mix permits layering up to 12 mm in thickness without any drooping or collapsing. The putty demonstrates shear thinning characteristics, facilitating outstanding feather edge usage. After post curing, you can sand the putty with ease, and its unique combination of fillers significantly reduces airborne dust during the sanding operation.

Absolute Clear Epoxies

PRO-SET Absolute Clear Epoxy is known for its crystal-clear transparency and its ability to resist UV light. To ensure optimal UV stability over a long period, it is advisable to pair it with a topcoat that is also UV stable. Industries commonly use this epoxy for laminating and applying clear coatings to various materials like wood, carbon fibre, and other darker surfaces.

You can handle Absolute Clear Epoxy simply. Its specific design allows it to be used for fill coats and the hand-wetting of lightweight reinforcement fabrics or fibres. Once cured, it produces an incredibly smooth finish that is ideal for sanding. It reaches its maximum physical properties when cured at room temperature.
